God of War (2018 video game)
God of War (God of War 4 or God of War PS4) is an upcoming third-person action-adventurevideo game in development by Santa Monica Studio and to be published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). It is scheduled to be released on April 20, 2018 for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) console. It will be the eighth installment in the God of War series, the eighth chronologically, and the sequel to 2010’s God of War III. The story is a new direction for the series, as it will be loosely based on Norse mythology all previous games were based on Greek mythology. Series protagonist Kratos returns as the main character, and he now has a son named Atreus. Kratos acts as a mentor and protector to his son, and has to master the rage that has driven him for many years.
God of War received critical acclaim, being praised for its combat, visuals, world design, story, and characters. Receiving a 95/100 from review aggregator Metacritic, it is the highest-scoring game in the franchise. It has the second highest score of all time for a PlayStation 4 game (tied with The Last of Us Remastered), and the highest score for an original, non-remastered PlayStation 4 game. It is also the highest rated PlayStation 4 game of 2018, and the highest rated game of 2018, regardless of platform.
talk about the game’s graphic options for the PS4 Pro. Prior to release, God of War director Cory Barlog said that God of War would feature a performance mode for those playing the game on a PS4 Pro without a 4K TV. During our time with the game, Barlog’s claims rang true. Playing God of War on a PS4 Pro with a 1080p screen resulted in supersampling being applied by default (complete with a notification explaining so), allowing for sharper, 4K-like visuals. Switching over to a 4K display had the game display in native 4K with no message or indication of supersampling being enabled.
Digging into the game’s options, God of War has two choices in its Camera section. Choosing Favour Performance lets you play the game at a higher than 30fps frame rate (it did not go close to 60fps), while going with Favour Resolution had a slew of effects and sharper details albeit at a locked 30fps.
God of War PS4 Pro – Favour Resolution or Favour Performance?
Given the action-oriented nature of the combat, every little bit of extra performance counts in terms of frame rate. With that in mind, we prefer the Favour Performance option. Sure, God of War looks better using the other option but not by much. What’s more is that choosing the performance mode doesn’t result in screen tearing or judders in our experience, making it the smoothest way to play thus far.
