What is e-Sim?
Today e-Sim is in news because of new iPhone XS new feature is e -sim.what is e-Sim.An eSIM is an electronic SIM card. As the name suggests, it will replace the physical, plastic SIM card all current smartphones use with a virtual embedded equivalent that cannot be removed.Embedded SIM (eSIM) which is also known as soft SIM is an initiative by GSMA to develop a new SIM standard that allows re-programability and remote activation, giving customers the ability to switch carriers without getting a new SIM card.
An eSIM is non-removable and sits by other internal components. You don’t have to remove it, and it isn’t at risk of compromising any water resistance of a gadget’s shell.
The eSIM technology allows consumers to store multiple operator profiles on a single device simultaneously. So whenever a customer need, switch between them remotely, though only one can be used at a time!
So using the eSIM facility, customers don’t need to change the SIM cards. If they need and they want to use the network of another operator… then using the saved operator profiles, the customer can pick the best operator and connect with the selected operator to continue the services after verification.
With such an embedded standard, the idea is that you can switch to a new operator without having to insert a specific SIM card. It’s all done through software.
One of the interesting aspects of the Watch’s eSIM is that it’ll share your iPhone’s number. You can think of them as part of the same connection. However, this also means it’ll only work with an iPhone and that your iPhone and Apple Watch will have to be with the same network provider.
