Thinks to know about former president of India Pranab Mukherjee.

- He was born in a Bengali family in the year 11 December 1935.His father was a freedom fighter and the member of Bangal Legislative Council.
- He earned an MA degree in Political Science & History and an LL.B. degree, both from University of Calcutta.
- He worked as upper-division Clerk in the Office of Deputy Accountant-General, then he became a lecturer(Assistant Professor) of Political Science at Vidyanagar College, Kolkata, then he worked as Journalist also.
- His political life started in 1969, when he managed the successful Midnapore by-election campaign of an independent candidate, V. K. Krishna Menon.
- After that Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, recognised Mukherjee’s talents and welcomed him to her party. Same year he elected as a Rajya Sabha Member.
- Mukherjee became a Gandhi loyalist and was often described as his “man for all seasons.”.He got his first ministerial post in Indira Gandhi’s cabinet(Deputy Minister of Industrial Development) in 1973.
- After the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Indira’s son, Rajiv Gandhi, was gained control. Mukherjee lost his position in the cabinet and was sent to manage the regional West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee.
- In 1986, Mukherjee founded party, the Rashtriya Samajwadi Congress (RSC), in West Bengal.Lather the compromise with Rajiv Gandhi RSC and INC merged.
- After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, 1991 new Government formed under P. V. Narasimha Rao. He appointed as a deputy chairman of the Indian Planning Commission and subsequently as a union cabinet minister. Mukherjee served as External Affairs Minister for the first time from 1995 to 1996 in Rao’s cabinet.
- He was made General Secretary of the AICC in 1998–99 after Sonia Gandhi became Congress President.
- Mukherjee became Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha in 2004(First UPA government) Under Manmohan Singh. During the Manmohan Government he worked as Minister for various high-profile Ministries including Defence, Finance, and External Affairs.
- In 2012 President election he elected as 13th president of India. The first Bengali hold the post of President of India.July 2015, President Pranab Mukherjee had rejected 24 mercy pleas including that of Yakub Memon, Ajmal Kasab, Afzal Guru.
- He served as Board of Governors of the IMF, World Bank, Asian Development Bank and African Development Bank. He is the Indian delegations to the Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ Conferences in 1982, 1983 ,1984; the United Nations General Assembly in 1994, 1995, 2005 ,2006, the Conference of Commonwealth Heads of Government at Auckland in 1995, the Non-Aligned Foreign Minister’s Conference at Cartagena in 1995 and the Conference to mark the 40th anniversary of the Afro -Asian Conference in Bandung in 1995.
- He Awarded major Indian Awards like Bharat Ratna,(India’s highest civilian award) in 2019. India’s second highest civilian award, Padma Vibhusan in 2008, the Best Parliamentarian Award in 1997 and Best Administrator in India Award in 2011.

- Mukherjee married Suvra Mukherjee on 13 July 1957. Suvra Mukherjee was born and raised in Narail, Bangladesh. She immigrated to Kolkata. Mukherjee had had two sons and a daughter.
